When it all goes wrong again

Rating: PG

He'd always thought that Sarah was his perfect fit. The way that her head nestled into the curve of his shoulder, the contours of her back curving seamlessly to fit around his chest. Matched breathing, soft hair. As complete and attuned as the tiny life fluttering inside of her.

He and Karl did not fit. It didn't make sense, not even to him.

In the telephone box he dialled 5 numbers in slow succession. The receiver was sticky in his hands and heavy as it rested on his shoulder. He leaned his forehead against the cold glass and pressed the 6th digit. He paused and the hole grew within him. A 7th number, followed by the click of connection. Karl's voice was worn, slightly abrasive, as he answered. Todd dropped the receiver abruptly, and told himself he wouldn't call again.
